The Basics of Exporting and Export Documentation – This full day seminar is a “nuts and bolts” review of exporting from the U.S. Topics include selecting your freight forwarder, the export process step by step, preparing export documentation, preparing a quote, AES transmission requirements, and export compliance. Bring your calculator, as there will be hands on exercises to ensure your understanding of the concepts.
The Basics of Export Compliance - In this workshop, you will receive guidance on understanding and complying with the Bureau of Industry and Security Regulations, anti-boycott regulations, how to determine if you need to apply for an export license, the different types of licenses available, how to fill out the Shipper's Export Declaration or AES transaction, and how to implement an export compliance program.
Advanced Export Compliance - Go step by step through a commodity jurisdiction, BIS classification and the new SNAP-R licensing application system. Learn the elements of an export compliance manual. We will introduce you to the regulations put forth by The Department of State ITAR and update you on recent pertinent issues and cases.
ECCN Classification, Developing an Export Compliance System - In this day-long workshop, we will review the steps to take to determine if your product is listed on the Commerce Department’s Commerce Control List and therefore potentially requires an export license. Even if you don’t think your product is listed, it is crucial that you take the proper steps so be sure. You want to be able to demonstrate your process in the event your transaction is investigated for any reason. We will also do some hands on exercises in classification to ensure your understanding. In addition, we will discus the elements of an export compliance system and the methods to use to ensure you have done proper ‘due diligence’ and thorough documentation for all your export transactions. This session is essential for those new to export compliance and while also providing a comprehensive refresher for more experienced staff members.
China, An Exporter’s Perspective, China Validated End-User Program - This program will focus on the issues involved in exporting goods to China as well as importing goods into China. As the Chinese market opens up U.S. companies need to be aware of the challenges that they will face which include U.S. export compliance issues, e.g. the new Validated End User program, as well as the sometimes bewildering and non-transparent nature of Chinese import regulations. Presenters will discuss the day to day issues that they have encountered while working in China and the policies and procedures they have implemented to achieve success in China. We will also discuss the broader issue of doing business in the new China and potential future trends thereof. The emphasis of the session is to provide practical hands on overview of the relevant issues and initiate discussion with individuals who have first hand knowledge of what it means to do business in China.
International Trade Security - This half-day seminar covers the various security initiatives relating to international trade. We will provide an analysis of the Advance Manifest Filing requirements for all modes of transportation along with recent developments in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), the Container Security Initiative (CSI), the Bio-terrorism Act of 2002, and additional international security initiatives.
The Basics of Importing and Import Documentation - In this workshop, you will learn the detailed sequence of events that occur from the time of the pro forma quote to delivery at destination. Learn what information to provide the freight forwarder for an accurate quote; what transportation and customs clearance documents you, the freight forwarder and customs broker need to prepare and the role of the freight forwarder and customs broker in the transaction.
Classification & Valuation- This workshop will include instruction on the background of the Harmonized Tariff system, the General Rules of Interpretation and how they apply to classification, the principles of valuation and practical exercises in product classification.
Import Compliance – Learn the requirements of “reasonable care” and “informed compliance” for importing into the U.S. The newly created Customs and Border Patrol is more enforcement minded than ever, so take steps to ensure that your company is in compliance with the law.
Duty Saving Strategies and Preferential Duty Programs – As the U.S. enters into more free trade agreements, opportunities increase for the savvy importer. Learn firsthand how to take advantage of preferential duty programs and save your company money. This seminar will cover the various preferential duty programs, including GSP, CBI, NAFTA, CAFTA, US-Israel, US-Singapore, and more. Most importantly, in this hands-on session, learn how to determine if your products are eligible for preferential duty treatment so that you can pass this information on to your foreign suppliers.
Global Product Safety Issues for Importers - This program will focus on the growing concern in the U.S. over product safety, highlighted by lead paint concerns for products from China. The U.S. government has developed an inter-agency task force to address this area and controversial legislation is currently before Congress. How will these actions affect importers: Will the proposal to limit FDA imports to specific ports be passed by Congress?
Pitfalls of Importing - Designed for both the novice and the expert, this seminar will provide the importer with an overview of the “do’s and don’ts” of importing into the U.S. Topics to cover include problems with inadequate documentation, how to respond to a CF 28 - Request for Information, supporting a claim for preferential duty, and failure to comply with other agency requirements. A featured speaker from Customs and Border Patrol will provide insight on frequent importer errors and ways to avoid them. We will include case studies of some companies that have made errors, the ramifications and how they could have avoided the errors. Make sure you bring your questions for the experts!
The Basics of International Banking, International Risk Management, Foreign Currency Pricing - This half-day, hands-on seminar includes instruction on methods of payment, documents used in international trade, letters of credit,
different types of letters of credit, steps to open a letter of credit, how to complete a draft, beneficiary checklist, the collection process, common discrepancies, sight drafts, direct collections, and the completion of a hypothetical draft. Learn and discuss the various methods of payment and risk factors in international trade. Learn and discuss methods commonly used by small to large corporations to maintain a competitive edge and protect margins.INCO Terms 2000 - This half-day, hands-on workshop includes instruction on the purpose of INCO Terms, other related international agreements, little known facts about INCO terms, each INCO term in detail, and the completion of a worksheet to ensure understanding.
